Hi,

Regarding the Great War figure, it would seem the rifle is odd... it certainly is not the ubiquitous Lee-Enfield MKIII, nor is it any of a number of rifle models that were pressed into service, in much lesser numbers, because of small arms shortages, like the Canadian-made Ross, for instance.

It does not seem to be really identifiable, but it has some similarity with the Lee-Enfield ancestor, the Lee-Metford, which would not be correct for a front-line 1916/18 figure even if properly done (and it is not, neither). I find it hard to believe the sculptor has neglected such a basic element in a subject about which there are tons of readily available references, so I suspect the rifle is not a newly made incorrect part, but a "lift" from some earlier Andrea's colonial times figure, the Boer War highlander probably (whose rifle is not accurate anyway, BTW), in order to "save" production time - apparently they have thought it looked similar enough... :( The bayonet is far too short, too.

Compare the weapon the figure is carrying with the Lee-Enfield MKIII:

I like the Hitlerjugend drummer for two reasons.

The main reason is that its so provocative.
And the second is some what related to the first as it has some resemblence of a propaganda poster.

I like the idea of the RAF Pilot, but when you look closely the life jacket is wrong - it wasn't held with two straps that went around the back like in the figure, but was really more like a jacket or a vest.

Also, it would have been a beige-green colour in 1940.

Nice try, Andrea, but no cigar. Sorry ... :(

One positive thing - it's good to see a manufacturor bringing a much neglected subject such as this on the market ...
