Has anyone seen this? How does it compare with their last painting females book, which I wasn't impressed with?

My guess is it will be better; less "girlie" figure orientated, more fantasy. It covers 28mm minis up to 200mm I believe, and contributions from the usual Andrea team of young artists, some of which have won silver at last year's World Expo, and many other awards..........

Hey Guys,

I received this 'book' a few days ago and here's what I think. First of the picture that Roc posted is somewhat misleading (and I in no way infer that that is Roc's intention :( ). The picture makes the book look thick or look like a binder, when it actually is more the thickness of a copy of Figure International Magazine.

And the content, well I can't compare it to their last 'females' book because I don't own that one, but I've seen better examples of SBS 54-90mm figure painting here, better examples of SBS 1/6 scale female figure painting by Cody Kwok and I don't really care that much for 28mm...

For me the book was a nice read, but nothing more. Hope this helps!

Hi
I got my copy... yes it is a very slim volume
I found it very informative
not a lot of text the pics show the progress

In my opinion figure painting is such a vast subject
that these manuals only set out give a starting point to develope from

I really wish they had been around 20 or so years ago ;)

As for working from the book/ magazine... not going to rush out and
buy all the paints mentioned ... but will approximate from what I have

If my efforts manage to come even slightly close to the pics ... then it has been money well spent

Currently working on Lara Croft......(I wish)... oop's storm Raider 54mm..

The hoopla over the Bill horan book by andrea was just that and did not measure up to the quality book it should have been. Now in regards to this book/booklet it appears to be little more than an item to compliment their figure product line. A lot of these booklets seem to offer little more than showing photos in a step by step fashion as to how a figure was sculpted or painted. It may show the process but does not really describe it, which is where a lot of these books fall flat. I feel if you are going to show the process you need to describe it as well.~Gary

Hi
Gary..I take your point this publication is by no means
definitive
but used in conjunction with other publications on technique
not necessarily from Andea together with articles from the web
proves handy to have on the bench

ok so it compliments the figure line ..offering how to's
must sell more figures and maybe encourages people to get into them
by offering a starting point

For what it is in terms of size and content I believe it is worth the cover price

Frank

The recent Andrea books have been, admittedly, "special editions" of the Figure International style of mag, but I must point out that these are not just compliments of Andrea product line, as you point out Gary. The fantasy book they recently released had 2 Andrea miniatures in it; the rest, a good 80%, was from other manufacturers. Although I don't have this "female" book at hand, from what I can see there is good representation from other miniature lines in there too.
