I am going to attempt Andrea Miniatures ANDR-SMF052
Standardbearer, 12th Century

I have painted figures before but nothing this advanced.
I'm wondering if there is a link somewhere I may read up on this figure.
I searched the forums but found nothing really.
I must order my Vallejo paints and would like to get them when i order the figure. So a "basic" color list would be nice/helpful.
I am also hoping to use more of my oils on him too.
Thanks

Martin,

If you go to the Andrea website and look your figure up in the catologue, you'll find they list the colours required for the figure underneath the pictures. The only problem is the colour references are for Andrea acrylics, not Vallejo.

For general reference on Templars, have a look around the threads on Planet Fgure any you will find hundreds of Templars, all beautifully painted and all showing a degree of personal variation within the overall theme.

Good luck.

Thanks gentlemen,
Have been looking.
I did find the andrea reference on their site.
Is there a cross reference for andrea to vallejo somewhere?
i seem to recall one being posted on the MIG forums but can not locate one now.
Once I get going I will post progress shots.
Thanks!
Martin

For colour matching

I don't recall any cross reference charts for Andrea to Vallejo, but the paints often have a name listing.

That will be a first point of doing the cross over.

The other thought is not stress overly; I often use the TLAR method (pron Tee - Lar) when matching colours.

TLAR stands for
That Looks About Right. :D

Your figure, and you do have a degree of play as to how you paint it.

Cheers

thats the standard i've adopted, it goes in my cabinet so it's going to look the way i want it too.........which means i'll use black and blue as much as possible :D

Tony and all the other West Australians will understand :)

Colour choice is very individual and this could also be painted in dozens and dozens of different colour schemes :)

At the most basic (excepting metallics) you need to have white, black, and one blue, red and yellow but there are so many colours to pick from it would be best to look and choose what looks good to you (bearing in mind any issues you might read about concerning specific colours, as well as how much mixing you want to avoid).

Given the large size oils seem like a good bet. If you do tackle some of the expanses with acrylics be sure to use a bigger brush than you'd use for something smaller! A good rule of thumb is to use the largest brush you possibly can to paint something.
