Another base question

Is there a simple rule of thumb when picking a base out for a bust or is it just trying to find the best fit?

yes, personal preference. I try to use a rule of three though: the base should be no more than 1/3 of the total height of the piece... its not a hard rule but i like the balance.

It's just the same as choosing a bust........you just have to try and find the best fit.
