It should come as no surprise to anyone to see yet another one of these JMD scots appear on the forums, as they are fantastic figures and will prove very popular. Perhaps show organizers should consider dedicating a separate category for these as you'll be seeing a lot more of them. Here is my latest effort. I decided to forgo putting a lot of barbed wire and mud on this figure, as I decided to portray this scot as fighting in some of the earliest battles of 1914, prior to the full development of trench warfare. That and the fact I was just too lazy to make my own barbed wire.

I have to say was truly a 54mm scale compared to the other JMD figures I have (Senegalese trumpeter and the Guard Mobile 1870) and it was a little smaller than my prefered 70-75mm figures. So I was really happy with the way he turned out but of course, I would happily except any comments you all have, as I am sure you all may be able to spot something I've missed. Let me know what you think of the black and white photo, as I was playing around with my photo editing soft ware.:)

Cheers;

Great work, Glen and very good photography as well! The broken off tree is a nice touch for the groundwork. I think the black and white has a convincing tone. You should try another shot with some sort of period photo as a backdrop.

Hi Bent;
Thanks for the comments. I just ordered JMD's Alpine soldier (new release), so maybe I'll give that trick photography a try if I can dig up an old calander featuring the Rocky Mountains.

Didn't get the Europe job, but we're trying for a teacher exchange now, so maybe we'll wind up in Britain or Australia for a year! We'll talk at the next Alberta Model Soldier Society meeting.;)

Hi Glenn,

Fantastic work on the Scotsman mate. Love the facial expression.

As for having to choose between England and Australia.....please, as if you need to think about it. Just drive to your nearest airport find a big plane with a red kangaroo on the tail and sit back and relax.

We'll have you thawed out in no time.

Thawing out Tony? At 45 degrees, I'd be worried about roasting! Our new Aussie neighbors don't seem to mind the cold as they heard about the heat wave back home. But I'd love to come to Australia...maybe I could make it in time for the Western Australia Model Contest? We'll see

Johnny, this is almost spot on 54mm, and compares quite favourably to similar scale figures I have from other manufacturers. I agree, the other JMD figures I have seem to be at least 60-65mm.

Thanks for the kind words Rocky, and Sirhogr, keep painting and some day soon, you'll be teaching me a few lessons.:)

Glenn,

It's only 37 degrees today. Hot enough to fry an egg on the footpath (pavement). It's so hot the ashphalt on the street outside sticks to the soles of your shoes.

The only cure is large quantities of very cold beer. That's gotta be better than minus 30 degree windchill

Both the skin tone and the hair tone-including eyebrows gives a definitive celtic look -or at least what is the arcetypical image-to the figure, intended like that...?

Great work on a great piece. Indeed these JMD figures float around a lot in the market and on our benches :)
