Can anyone recommend some books that specifically deal with painting miniatures and busts in oil paints. Most of the books I have deal with acrylic paints but I find that they are not to my suiting (for me they dry too quick and I'm unable to apply the changes I need to). I nearly usually always use W&N oils paints and sometimes Humbrol enamels.

Look for some of the Schiffer paperbacks that Mike Davidson wrote in the nineties. They deal with painting in oils for specific periods. If you can get a copy of Shep Paine's OOP book regarding figure building, get it. It's hard to find, but very good.

There are lots of good how-to books on painting in oils and colour mixing that it would be well worth hunting down. Although the way we paint is quite specific the basic colour side of things is the same.

When it comes to fleshtones in particular it's much better to aim for a level above that commonly seen in modelling IMO.
