During 9th Century inside central and Eastern Anatolia. Hard fightings took place between Orthodox Byxantines, Muslims , Paulicians across the easterns borders of the Byxantine empire. The Roman - Byxantine borders were Guarded by soldiers called "Akrites". Many of them had Armenian orgin like the figure of this photo whice reprecents a common mountain man in Byxantine service.

Hey, looks like a nice figure and an unusual subject too. I'd like to see some larger, more detailed pics if you've got them.

That guy's face looks mean! Wouldn't like to try and get past him. From what I can see in the small pic it looks like a very well sculpted and finished piece of work.

very nice stuff. He looks nicely sculpted and well painted. I too would like to see more close up pics if you have some. I also really like the fact that this is such an unusual subject. Thanks for sharing!
