Attaching gun sling, 120mm resin

Can anyone help me with a good way to attach a lead-foil gun-sling to this sten gun?

I tried to make an eye out of steel wire, but had problems gluing it, so I just glued the sling to the barrel instead(hoping no-one notice), seems like you would have to drill a hole in the barrel to stick the eye in. Can you do an eye with putty or something? How do you guys make
