glad you are save and thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved from my family here in the states . another upsetting day to say the least.

I was saddened and horrified by these attrocities. I am very glad you guys are safe and my thoughts are with the people of Belgium.

You got to fight fire with fire. If you do this sort of atrocious action then you should expect no quarter if you are apprehended , you have forfeited all rights .

Exactly my thought too, but in our modern civilized societies and IMO due to a certain class of softies, criminals have more rights than your average law abiding citizen nowadays, and as yet terrorists don't form a legal class of their own. It might have helped had the decision makers in Brussels and Strasbourg seen the effects of terrorists attacks on the human body. The Israeli forces, having witnessed school busses being blown to smithereens are not so squeamish about a little waterboarding or worse of a suspect. Kings and queens and presidents lay wreaths and shake hands, talk in earnest grave voices to the security forces and emergency services on duty and nod their heads knowingly, but they never stumble on boxes marked "body parts"!
Time to stop rambling and return to the workbench...

My sympathies for all that were affected by these terrorist actions.

IMHO we should not overlook the many mistakes that led to the current situation - and at least for me it is not easy to understand what kind of war we fight. Muslims know as well how body parts look like and that they can be considered as merely collateral damage by our freedom and humantity-loving societies and nobody nowhere is born as a suicide bomber.
If we give up over here certain city districts to foreign people and let criminals set the rules things get out of hand and not the best individuals will tell others what to do. - A while before we wanted to carry out an operation against criminals in a neighboring European country and were told that this district could not be entered by Police forces.....at that time something that was accepted by the officials.
In my homecountry the Police was downsized within the last decade. In comparison to 1998 we are today 19.000 officers less nationwide. I won`t tell you what that means for everyday-jobs - not to mention special situations - but politicians do not listen until the sh$t hits the fan.
If informations about security threats are not shared and instead big efforts are made to spy on allies of the "Free world" to damage their economy etc. things are not getting better. In the end we will all get what we deserve.

I could go on but will better curb my dog(ma) - back to the hobby and I hope that all of you stay safe!

Martin

Firstly I don't care who I upset in my reply . I think All European Governments should now be held accountable for treason against it's citizens . They have played down all the warning signs over the last 20 years that have been clear even to a blind man with a blind guide dog by come down hard on anyone who has tried to bring this to the public's notice by calling them racist . If some one is trying to change my way of life or killing me to prove their point and to I don't like it, it seems that make me a racist . I weep for Brussels I have been there many times when I use to tour around Europe and enjoyed each visit . A Beautiful city , great people great Buildings , great beer but never got used to chips with mayonaise .

Personally I'm a free spirit, mistrust authority etc. Each is entitled to their opinion and hearing them is good, especially those in North America where some interesting candidates are emerging in what seems will be a very polarised presidential campaign. Also of course is the Brexit referendum in the UK.

Now I'm really disinterested in debate about politics and this is a subject so complex that however I analyse it, I end up with no feasible solution - and I am an IT analyst by professions.

Cheers

I think that Steve D. is entitled to share his view like everybody else. I absolutely disagree but respect his comment. This thread related to the sad events at Brussels invites political comments - we should be careful to not go over the top.
Great that so far none of our members seems to be directly affected by the bombing.
All the best!

Well put Martin. Politics form part of the problem of course or rather a mix of political inaction/lethargy and a certain form of enforced political correctness, and not in the least budget cuts in defense and law enforcement after the fall of the Iron Curtain (for which I'm very grateful by the way as it got me some great Russian friends(y)). Israeli and UK citizens for many terrible years had to deal with terrorism perpetrated in the name of a religion or so it seemed, now our continent undergoes the same, carnage by non-mosque goers claiming to act in the name of their god. I presume Martin you are part of that small band of ours who had the 'privilege' to see the effects of ethnic/religious righteousness in the Balkans years ago and we understood the powder keg we were living on, our politicians however did not! The press goes it's usual course: day one utter astonishment/ day two let's cry and sing "we shall overcome" together/ day three let's interview some survivors and do some wreath-laying/ day four let's bash some politicians and slander the intelligence community for their lack of intelligence/ day five business as usual and forget bout it! Nothing change that much, ever!
As a Brussels-born Belgian thanks for all expression of empathy, keep eating mussels and fries and drinking our famous beers, we'll keep doing the same!
Cheers,
Piet

Spot on re the press and mass grieving and nothing gets done . Already being warned of more of this to come .

Another terrifying moment in the heart of Europe. My thougs are with Belgium and with families who lost is loved ones.
IMO, this is a reflex of the bad policies regarding lately emmigration...Another thing, Schengen agreement must be revised...The financial support must be cut to this type o persons...
Europe should have an link between all the police forces and intelligence services. ;)
I do not think this terror will stop here, no one is prepared for this type of war, but as we all know, the human being can adapt to all scenarios and situations and that's why today we are the dominant specie.
My analogy: When someone enters my house follows my rules, if respect my rules can stay and come back whenever want, otherwise, will suffering the consequences...

Stay safe and good modeling.
Al the best,
Pedro.
