The Roman Empire is History!
On August 22nd, 476 the Germanic prince and military leader Scirian Odoaker (here the only authentic picture that exists of him) ...
... who had previously served as an officer in the west Roman army, marches into Rome with his loyal German troops without a fight and takes over the city ...:
There is no one left to defend the city!
Odoacer does not even have to kill the Roman emperor, whom he meets at Rome - it is enough that he orders him to hand over the coronation insignia ...
... declares him deposed ...
... and then just send him home - because Emperor Romulus Augustulus is a 16 year old boy!

On the same day, Odoacer is proclaimed "Rex Italiae" - King of Italy - and thus founds his own kingdom ...:
Mark the date, it is not unimportant: On this August 22, 476 the Roman Empire ends!
It was rotten to the core and had crumbled bit by bit in the previous 100 years.
Ostrom (Byzantium) will continue to exist for almost a thousand years (until 1453), but the Rome we speak of when we say "Rome" no longer exists!
