The Borodino Panorama is inaugurated!

In Moscow, on August 29, 1912 (Russian calendar!), Tsar Nikolai II opened the large panorama building of the Battle of Borodino (August 26, Russian calendar and September 7, 1812, our calendar) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the battle...:

To frame the celebration, the authorities even found veterans who lived to see the time - supposedly! - like the 107-year-old veteran Wassilij Kotshetkow...:

... and others...:

The next picture shows the tsar with his wife Aleksandra Fyodorovna and his eldest daughter Olga as well as court minister Count Frederickzs leaving the building...:

The panorama stands on the site of the famous farmhouse in the village of Fili, which was the headquarters of General Mikhail Kutuzov in 1812.

This farmhouse burned down on June 7, 1868 - but most of the furniture was saved.

The farmhouse that was rebuilt in 1912 is located nearby and is part of the Borodino panorama (Fili was already in the Moscow city area in 1912)....:

The huge panorama painting was painted by the Russian artist Franz Roubaud. Here are some excerpts...:

Like the Waterloo panorama and the Sebastopol panorama, the Borodino panorama is also three-dimensional. You look at the scene with real buildings in the foreground from a round gallery...:

In 1918 the panorama will be completely dismantled - but not destroyed, but stored!

All panorama fragments contained are now part of a new building on Kutuzovsky Prospect, which was erected not far from the old place and opened its doors on the occasion of the 150th anniversary in 1962.

The Kutuzov hut still stands in its original place and is still part of the museum inventory.

I'm surprised it's not been put back in place , looks an amazing painting
