I've recently bought some velvet felt sticky backed sheets from amazon to use for protection under a plaster plynth that has a sculpture attached. The fabric received is too thick and makes the plynth appear like it's almost floating in the air. I think the thickness is 1.6mm so obviously far too thick but I can't find anything 1mm or less.

Can anyone advise the best fabric to use that is thin and works well as a protection but also suitable for applying to plaster. The sticky backing doesn't adhere to plaster as it just looses it's stick as soon as applied so guess I will have to stick down with a glue. If anyone can advise the best method it appreciated.

If the plaster isnt completely dry, nothing will stick to it! Its difficult, as the surface is chalky, anyway, but contact adhesive, like Evostik is the best stuff to use. But bear in mind that if there is ANY hint of damp in the plaster, any fabric will go mouldy.....
