One question from an acrylic absolute beginner: is there some kind of rule, or advice at least, about the order of applying shadows and highlights ? I mean, is it advisable to start with shadows or with lights ?
When I used oils I chose according to the base colour, i.e. , with some it seemed that better results came from adding shadows first, while it was vice versa with others, but it meant working and blending mostly wet on wet of course.
Now with acrylics I feel somehow intimidated: I'm practising a lot on expendable figures, but still, at the same time I'm enjoying the thrill of the very slow movement upwards along the leraning curve.

Hi Ernie
Everyone has their preferred approach. Personally, I always add shadow first, going progressively darker, then add steadily lighter highlights.
(But I use enamels, because they dry slowly; never blending wet with wet though)
Cheers
