My good friend Tomas Castano, also a planet member, sent me photos of his latest project for Seil Miniatures. "Beauty And The Beast", a 54mm vignette of a Viking Chief carrying off an indefensive Nun. He stated this was a tribute to Tim Richards of Phoenix Miniatures and Tim's Lindesfarne Series of Vikings from many years ago.

Here are the steps Tomas is in now with the Beauty and the Beast.

Many thanks Tomas for giving me permission to post these steps.

What a great vignette to pay tribute to. That was one I always liked (never painted it at the time because I was a self respecting "armor" modeler at the time :( ) andwhat a tribute it's turning out to be. Look forward to seeing this one. Man, Seil has really been churning out some FINE looking figures and drawing from the extensive talent pool here at pF to boot!

I really like the anatomy of both figures, it's very convincing. I do not care for the horns on the helmet, but then again maybe this is meant to be a "fantasy viking" in the sterotypical horned helmet and animal skins. To each his own.~Gary

NO horns on vikings.
Of course. But life would be much much duller. :(

A Viking without the horns is like a cowboy without a hat or Angelina Jolie without the b... oops! ;)

Q. :)

To me the world becomes duller and boring everytime I see a viking portayed with a helmet with horns(or feathers). :(

Just call it something from Conan, Prince Valiant etc. But not a viking.

Cheers

Thanks Gents,for the comments. :)
Janne, this old idea for the vignette, are based in a Harold Foster draw of The Prin-
ce Valiant saga.I understand, its no necessary too much acurate, but I feel the pose.
I dont want any polemics about the "horns",anyway, thanks for the advise! ;) .

Tomas

Tomas, Not a problem. I do not believe anyone is harshly questioning your portrayal of a Viking. It is well understood. Great sculpt.(y)~Gary

Well Friends,
Two hours later,I just found the original draw of H.Foster.A "comic" version of an
Viking Chief,Boltar an "old friend" of Prince Valiant.See the draw in the next..,

Thanks a lot for the warm comments. :)
I think,its better,change the horns for wings. ;)
All the best,

Tomas

Tomas - Great idea for a vignette. If you are building this for kit sale I like the idea of "horns optional". Great idea! Why not do both and let the builder choose? ;)

I'd like to see more sculptors and manufacturers take the "options" approach with commercial kits.

Great sculpting by the way!!!! OF COURSE!!!! WHAT ELSE????!!!!

All the best,
Dan

Looking forward to the next step.
