Having recently started up again I'm in need of some new brushes. I have some Humbrol Premier brushes when I was painting with enamel paints but wondered if other brushes are more suitable for acrylic paints?

Hi Propblast

Firstly a big welcome to PF

I use a variety including Rosemary and Co series 33 , Winsor and Newton series 7 , Hawk Miniatures , Brojen Toad.

If you do a search with "Brushes" there are plenty of threads on this

Really it's a matter of personal choice but buy the best YOU can afford , Kolinsky sable .

Happy painting

Only last week I bought some Windsor and Newton series 7 to use with acrylics and they are great.
I also Bought some Da Vinci kolinsky Marder brushes for oils, not used them yet but expect them to be great also.

Hi Ralph, I use series 7's for both. I couldn't get on with the Rosemary Brushes as they seemed to curl very quickly but I do use their flat brushes with the 45 degree taper for blending. I tried Broken Toad but they also curl quite quickly. I do use cheaper brushes for underpainting especially on larger areas to save wear and tear on the series 7's. It's important to use a good brush cleaner as well. I've just bought some B&J Master brush cleaner to try up to now i've used Winsor and Newton Artgel Hand and brush cleaner.
Let me know how you get on with the Da Vinci, I've got a couple but haven't tried them yet together with some Raphael 8404's.-all I need now is painting time....LOL
Did you buy the Series 7's in Standard or Miniature form?

Keith

Kolynski sable water colour brushes are what I find work best.

W&N series 7 long and BrokenToad are the ones I use most.
