Hi Guys,

Finished this recently. Depicts a Bevin Boy, men conscripted to work in the coalmines during the war. It is only recently that these men have received recognition for their contribution to the war effort.

Approx 1/9 scale, all work done in Milliput and Duro, this will be a one-off piece.

Thanks for looking,

Steve(y)

Am I right in thinking On your call up papers you had a registration number and if it ended with a 0 ie 1391470 you went down the mines all the rest went into the forces.

Here is the Wikipedia link, if anyone is interested, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bevin_Boys

Yes, Mick, if your call up number ended in 0, then you had to go down the pit. They had a rough ride from many people at the time, who wrongly thought they were opting out of military service. I think this attitude prevailed from the First World War, when conscientious objectors were sent to work in foundries and collieries. There is a fitting memorial recently dedicated at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.
