Try Games workshop chaos black its pretty good from a can

Vallejo now has different colour primers black included. They are larger bottles that should last a long time. Check your LHS's that carry Vallejo. I know PM Hobbycraft here in Calgary carry them.

Rodrigo, if you're okay with using auto primer you should be able to find a vendor locally who stocks a brand. Lots of the modellers are using automotive primers and similar now if they prime from a rattle can.

Not primer Stu.

I know people prefer different colors for primer (I prefer grey) and everyone is always fast to mention the "normal" lines of primer but rarely do people mention good 'ole Tamiya acrylic paint. Not the spray cans. But their normal line of paint in the jars. This stuff dries dead FLAT and in my opinion gives a much better surface to start painting with. With the surface being so flat, the base coats have no choice but to "bite" into the primer. I normally spay this with an airbrush. Nothing too fancy or expensive. Using an airbrush allows you to control the paint being sprayed on a figure so much easier anyway.

Started doing the same Jim, I tend to use a complementary colour.

Games Workshop is very good, probably among the best on the market but also the most expensive. I like Tamiya but I have found it inconsistent in quality.

I'm with Einion. There are other good and less expensive products on the market. My preference is Rustoleum Painter's Touch (Black, White and Grey depending on what I'm working on). You can pick up a 340g (~11oz) for $6 in the paint/decorating section at Home Depot or Canadian Tire....assuming, of course, you are in the 'True North';)
