I am painting Youngs Death Hussar bust. For the headgear I undercoated with Humbrol matt black, the basecoat was lamp black allowed to dry than a coat of blue black. shadows were done with lamp black and highlights with paynes grey. This dried flat and looks OK. The tunic was also undercoated with Humbrol matt black. The base coat was a mix of burnt umber 60% and prussian blue 40%.The colour looks black but has dried shiny. Is there a pruduct available in the UK I can use to remove the shine or can I correct this by painting again and substitute indigo for the prussian blue.

Dave.

Dave,

I know almost for shure that the prussianblue is the culprit.
Blue's are always a pain in the $#% for drying matt.
You can overpaint them very thin (i've done it before) and put them in a drybox. I assure you that they are dryed flat.
I thought there is Dullcoat on the market but i never used it. (it is not available here in Holland).
I've heard that sometimes the shine is heavyer with this product.

I bet it's the prussian blue ! try to avoid using that colour.
I use mat base from valejo if something's shining. Hope it helps for you too.

I have had this problem, and would recommend either Testor's Modelmaster Lusterless Flat (spray can) to help remove that shine, though it may not make it completely flat.

The alternative is to remove the paint and start over, this time using a drybox to dry out all the oils. There was a recent thread here on oils drying glossy. Basic advice is to let the paint sit on an absorbent surface for 15 - 30 minutes before painting, mix the paint with a little thinner and apply it as thinly as possibnle to the figure, and use a dry box. Hope this is helpful.
