I will be in the future building a plastic kit of the headless horseman . Just wondering how to treat such a dark kit . Has anyone used the black paint sets out now by various companies ? Or is oil the way to go ?
I have tried Andrea's set, but don't like it: the tones are too light and too grey.
Fellow member Ernesto Reyes describes several black mixes for acrylics in his vBench thread and in his articles in the figure modelling magazines from Stelios Demiras(?). Hope you know which magazines I mean.
I know what Ferris means, the Andrea set has its uses particularly for washed out/faded blacks. Have a look at the AK Interactive set - Panzer Crew Black Uniforms.
I use Tamiya NATO Black as a black or charcoal grey base.
Myself, I prefer getting a basic range of colors that I can mix at will, to buying prepared sets of colors. But I appreciate that they can save you guesswork.
