Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me what was the embroidered patch on the epaulettes of the red tunic, as worn at Tel El Kebir, by the Black Watch, please?

I have traced all other uniform details, but this one escapes me!

Thanks in advance chaps..

All I could find was the painting guide from an old figure that says the "regimental device" on the epaulettes were silver. It looks like the device is "RH" for royal Highland. It's funny that none of the reference books ever mentions this detail. Hope that helps.

Hi Steve,
I have been going through my stuff All I can find post 1881 is in the Osprey Men at Arms series Queen Victoria Highlanders. Plate F Black Watch ( Royal Highlanders ) 1880s, shows a Regimental Police. He has red epaulettes piped in white with the initial RH embroidered on them . I have tried to take a picture on my Box Brownie but it is not coming up clear. I would go with this.
