Hi Guys,

just a few pics of my latest effort, depicting the young lad in the photo. I came across it when I was researching my Drummer Boy sculpt and I thought it would make an interesting figure.

Scale is 120mm, (100mm actual, allowing for the fact he appears to be about 13/14 yrs old), sculpted in Miliput and Pro Create over a wire armature.

I cannot ascertain if it says RF of LF on his epaulettes, maybe someone can clarify? It is the red Home Service tunic with FS helmet, trousers and puttees. The bandolier and holster look really heavy!!

hope you like it, so far,

Steve(y)

He's a great subject, but I rather suspect that he's dressed up for the photo, rather than being an enlisted soldier.
He's wearing a sort of generic outfit, rather than something regulation, but it's reminiscent of Mounted Infantry for some reason..
Be interested to hear some other opinions.
I have a pic of my Dad aged about ten , in the 1920s, dressed as a Guardsman for a Fancy Dress party.
But don't stop on that account, he's still worthy of making .

Tony, thanks for the input - I have long suspected that this boy may be the same one in the Colesberg pic that I based my sculpt on, although this is merely my opinion! The mouth is very similar, as are the ears and the boots! I agree with you on it resembling the MI, especially with the bandolier.
There are several photos of regiments on embarkation and arrival in South Africa wearing a combination of Home and Foreign service uniforms, so maybe he was the son of someone who was being posted?
I shall press on and post further pics soon!
thanks for looking in,

Steve(y)

Steve ,

Nice subject , agree about the equiptment looking heavy ...and that it could be the same lad as the drummer boy

This picture brings it home about young lads enlisting even if the picture was a "made up " one for the family.

Keep those sculpting tools whirring

Cheers Kev, thanks for the kind words. The pic appealed to me with the combo of red and khaki, just thought it would look good painted up!! The sculpting tools are glowing white hot at the moment, have got many projects on the go and some in the wings, Ill keep you posted!

cheers,

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there could clarify how many rounds this type (on the photo) of bandolier held, please? The cartridges are grouped in fives, so I guessed maybe 30?

If anyone can can give me an answer, that would be great - so I can crack on with it!!

cheers,

Steve(y)

Hi Guys,

A long time coming but some (almost) completed pics of my latest sculpt. Still lots of tidying up to do and pieces held together with blutack. There will be a small base to complete it, comprising a section of wooden staging.

I am planning to do a small run of these figures, if anyone may be interested, please PM me here, so that I can gauge numbers!

thanks for looking in,

Steve
