Hi All,

Here's a couple of Vallejo mixes I've recently devised, which may be of use to someone:

British 37 Pattern Web Eqpt/Mustard Khaki Blanco shade:
Base - Russian Uniform 924 + Khaki 988 + Japanese Uniform 923 + Dark Sand 847.
HiLite - Base + Basic Skintone 815.
Shadow - Base + Chocolate Brown 872.

British Maroon Para Beret:
Base - Violet Red + Vermillion + drop of Basic Red
HiLite - Base + Basic Skintone (gives a slight pink tinge)
Shadow - Base + Black or Chocolate Brown.

HTH,
Chris.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the colour mixes, especially for the 37 pattern webbing.

I'd find it particularly helpful if you could also specify the proportions of each colour you used to create the right mix.

For example, the Mustard Khaki colour has 4 colours in the base. Do you add equal proportions of each colour, or is there a recipe mix I should follow.

Tony,
I started off with 50% each of Russian Uniform & Khaki, thinking this would give the right greenish shade I was looking for, but added about 25% Japanese Uniform & 25% Dark Sand as well because I wasn't happy with the shade until then. It should come out as a buff colour with a slight greenish tinge, matches perfectly with old tins of blanco I've seen (& used! Yes, we still got issued '37 Pattern belts when I joined up in 1979)
HTH,

How the British Army likes to be at the forefront of technology.:D
I was blessed with ultra modern 58 pattern, only 30 years out of date.

Ah the incredible shrinking 58 Pattern......or "how many Noddy suits, overboots, NBC gloves & Jersey Heavy Wool can you fit in your bumroll, & still fasten it up" & the most useless large pack in the world. Happy days!(y)
Got issued a set of 44 Pattern when I was in NI & that was ace!

Been trying out the lining-in of detail on my figure's 37 Pattern webbing today, & have come to the conclusion that the best colour to use is Vallejo Brown Glaze, thinned to a wash consistency until it fills all the recessed details. Same goes for seams on British 37 Pattern battledress uniform, previously I would have used Van Dyke Brown oil paint for this but found Vallejo Brown Glaze does the same job but without inhaling any of the toxic fumes from oils/enamels & turpentine.
HTH,
