This is my first time ever I do a British Denison Smock,I hope it look a little bit good ,because I have
start....I think 8/9 times over and over again.

The figure is completely paint with 'acrylic paint" I don't have oils and no airbrush.

I like to thank you for taking a look and all advise is very welcome, because I have a lot to learn

Thank you,
Mario

Hi Mario

Great to see you posting your pieces , certainly a lot of work gone into this and there camo as well which looks good

The facial work shows a war weary , unshaven Para .....nice

Liking the weathering on the webbing

If I may , this is purely personal , I would give him less stubble at the sides i.e. as above the lips

Well done on completing this , looks like you enjoyed it

Thanks also for supporting the competition.....good luck

Look forward to seeing the next ....perhaps do a WIP in the V bench forum

Happy benchtime

Good work, keep going. There's lots to like about this, my only comment would be it looks a bit shiny. Maybe the photography is not helping, but keeping the cloth and equipment matt really helps with the finished piece IMO.

Well Nigel,I see that also when I put my pictures here that the figure is shining, and I use a matt varnish from Vallejo ? don't understand how this is possible,
but I got also a spray (mat varnish) and go over it and gonna see if the shine is going away,
should I do it ore not ???

Maybe give it a go and see what the result is,maybe I have use to much water in the varnish, that is possible

Thank you for your time and take a look Nigel

Mario

If you had just photographed the head and shoulders it would look like a photo of one of the paratroopers. Absolutely superbly lifelike.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for the kind words , I try to do my best and always still struggle with the face to paint it ,
one day it will be work,I hope ;)

Thank you for your time to take a look and your comment,

Mario

Hi Mario I think you have worked wonders on this, you have managed to given him a realistic appearance, large scale Camo can be difficult but this looks good and I am sure that you have learnt plenty along the way.
TERRY

Hi Terry,

This is feeling good your words ,absolute ,didn't aspect this at all :)
This is giving me absolute the motivation to go on,and try to do only my best,I didn't wanna post this first, but they convinced me to do it so...... yes, it is very difficult the camo
I have start a lot again, because I was absolute not happy with it, goh.......... that is true,I have learn a lot on my way
to get this result ,and hope for next time to make it maybe better, camo is very difficult.

Thank you very much,

Mario

Getting a good matt finish is always a problem. Most matt varnishes aren't completely matt, they have a slight sheen to them which I find can be distracting. The amount of water won't make a difference, it's the varnish. I would be wary of spraying the figure, you don't know how it will turn out. You wouldn't want to spoil it. Just leave it as it is and experiment with some different varnishes for your next project. Also, it looks like you used flash photography which will make the shine worse in the pictures.

A lot of people are recommending AK Ultra Matt varnish but I haven't tried that. Mixing some Tamiya X20 flatting agent into the paint is also very popular but that needs a bit of experimentation. I am still trying to find a good solution myself......

Hello Nigel,
I have done it already yesterday with the spray, and now is it gone,it's completely matt now, and glad I didn't spoil it and yes I use a flash for the pictures,
because if I don't use a flash then are the pictures a yellow dark tint, but it's just a ordinary camera I got,

Think I gonna use a spray from now on,because I have not a airbrush and do everything with brushes, and thanks for the tips Nigel,
Mario

Sorry, but my son have take other pictures with his camera and maybe are these better???
I follow the advice from other people, thanks a lot

The shining is also away, because I have used a spray now and it's much much better (I hope)

You have done a good job on the Denison camouflage, you have re-created a nice, dirty and filthy, dark finish which a lot of the later Denisons aquired, when the paints were more resilient than the earlier ones.
I agree with earlier posters, the face is well painted, looking properly tired and dirty, but still showing the indominatable spirit of the Paras. Plenty of photos of filthy but smiling Paras after the evacuation from the Cauldron..

Hi Henk,
Thank you very much for the nice comment,I have done my best (like everyone else here) but it was difficult for the first time, and you see so much different camo that it is confusing
but have done my thing and happy with the result,
Thank you for looking and your time

Mario

Excellent work on this bust Mario, I like how you have made him look with your face painting, great job and very realistic.
Cheers
