Hi,

Starting this figure, I cleaned and temporary fixed the parts to see the fit.
I want also to test and compare AK 3rd gen metallics and the Scale75 metal alchemy. By the way if you mix the metallics with inks, you will achieve very interesting shades for glazing and various effects on the metal, but this later ;)

This dwarf will be a test piece for the Color theory, I will also make different base-more like small diorama with dungeon entrance, spider webs etc. :)

Cheers!

Nice figure! I love the dwarfs :) I'm curious about your color testing. I can't paint myself, so I always like to look at the approach of other painters (in case I decide to paint myself one day :) )

Cheers Borek

So, I started with the skin mixing using only the primaries plus Vanilla white. I used also Intense yellow, instead of Primary yellow for some of the mix, because it is warmer (the primary is "colder").
Also I don't highlight with the pure white, because is too contrasting. Either add some yellow to the white, or if lazy use Vannila white, which has yellow pigment in it :)
For the base coat I used African shadow form the regular line and the progressively adding colors and blending with the Artist line.
They lay smooth and blend very well.

Hi Venko

After the review of the paints and indeed this figure which are appreciated it's nice to see this in V bench from you

Good explanations here and I will be looking at the S75 acrylic tubes

Following with interest

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Stay safe

Thank you, Nap!

First impressions of the paints are very good, of course I'm new to Color theory and they need practice and have learning curve, but that's the fun in the end :)
I'm glad that I bought this dwarf, now I have what to paint untill my shapers arrive and continue with the sculpting projects.

Stay safe!

Proceeding with the beard.
I used African and Indian shadow from the regular line for the base shadows, and then first with orange (very nice color :) ) and then mixed with intense yellow for highlight.
Dwarven gold and Citrine alchemy for the hair and beard jewelry. Citrine alchemy is thinner and is basicly highlight for the gold.

Next, the clothing (I also paint the arms simultaneously, but will show them later).
Mixing Cobalt blue and Inktense yellow for green shade, also I added small amount of Intense green ink for the base coat-for slightly more fluidity.
Highlights with Vanilla white and a bit of yellow.

That is for today :)
Regards!

Thank you Borek!

I have to warn-be careful how much water you put in the wet palette, because the paints will become very thin after sitting overnight ;)

Here is how the wett palette looks with the mixes so far :)

I was usrprised how small amount of paints I used, initially was afraid that the tubes are too small. And the mixtures stay wet and useable after several days of painting.
But you need to experiment with the quantity of water in the palette-too little water and the paints will dry fast, too much nad they will become watery ;)
The working area is around 20x17cm:

Beautiful work Venko and a great SBS. Your use of the tube acrylics is really interesting. :)

Cheers,
Ken

Thanks!
I think I'm already addicted to the Color theory thechnique, probably will become my main way to paint in the future, so much fun mixing different tones :)

Cheers!
