BUGLE CALL 09 COMPETITIONS

The basic premise of the Bugle Call competition system is to recognize the good modelers and encourage the promising ones. No deserving work should go home unrewarded.

Entrants are encouraged to display their work in their chosen class/es. A display could be one piece or several pieces. Where there is more than one piece in a display awards will be given for the display not each individual piece. Initially this may seem to discriminate against those who enter more than one piece; however the more pieces entered the more choice the judges have. What the entrant considers to be his/her best piece may not be the one the judges base the award on!

ELIGIBILITY
Any model, of any type is eligible. Within the bounds of good taste, there is no restriction on subject matter. All exhibits are eligible for the "Best of Show". Exhibits which have won awards at previous Bugle Call shows are ineligible for awards again. Entries must be the work of the competitor, or be accompanied by a note of permission to enter by proxy. The utmost care will be taken of items placed in the competition, however, while judging entries will be handled, therefore entries are displayed at the owner’s risk.

THE COMPETITIONThe competition is divided into five classes: Figure Painting, Figure Open, Vignettes/Dioramas, Vehicles and Juniors. Different display areas are set aside and labeled for each of these classes. Exhibitors are free to enter their work at whichever class they choose, (Junior must be 16 and under)

CLASSES
Figure Painting class; single figures any subject any scale (includes mounted, flats & busts). Judging is based largely upon painting skill. Although scratchbuilt and converted figures are not excluded, they are judged as if they were stock commercial castings.

Open Division; scratchbuilt and converted figures any subject any scale (includes mounted, flats & busts). Each entry must be accompanied by a brief description of work carried out and commercial parts used, or it will be judged as a painted figure.

Vignettes/Dioramas; each entry must contain at least two figures. Vehicles/aircraft can also be included. Where vehicles and figures are included they will be judged to the same standard.

Vehicles: models without figures. Figures may be included, but they will not count in the judging. Includes: cars, ships, aircraft, military, civilian and science fiction/fantasy vehicles.

Juniors: Any subject by a competitor 16 years old or younger.

BEST OF SHOW:chosen from the gold medal winners from each class.

HOW THE CLASSES ARE JUDGED:

The competition is an open one with unlimited gold, silver, bronze and commended awards being allocated by the judges.

Each class has a different emphasis for the judges to look for. An example of the areas for the consideration and the weight given to each area is given below. This is not a points system but a guide to the areas that will be looked at by judges.
