A couple of offerings from the Stormtroopers range of busts which have been keeping me quiet recently. The first is a Roman soldier in the aftermath of battle. I’m not usually one for too much “blood and guts” on figures but on this occasion relied on Ernest’s brilliant interpretation.
The second figure is the French infantryman at Austerlitz. Another super offering and for this I utilised references from Stephen Maughan’s Europa Militaire book on French infantry. Both are oils over acrylic.
Thanks for looking,

Neal

It's easy to go overboard on it and spoil an otherwise nice piece (seen it done many times), but I think you've got the "blood & guts" balance about right on the Roman. Good work on both pieces (y).

Good job on both busts.. The blood spatters on the Roman look realistic ad most importantly not overdone. I have both busts. Completed the Frenchman. Made mine a grenadier though. A most enjoyable project. The face seemed to paint itself. Haven't done the Roman yet. Painting the blood spattering and after the battle look is very intimidating for me because I have never done it before. I keep staring at him though trying to visualize how to approach the task and work up the courage to paint him.

Many thanks clrsgt. I think it’s a case of less is more- building it up in stages to a point you’re happy with. When you look at the box art it’s quite intimidating in a sense with the amount of blood yet it doesn’t seem to detract in any way from the overall effect of the finished figure.

Hi Neal

Always good to see your artwork both clearly showing your skill , do like the blood effects on the Roman and the look of cold on the French fellow

Nice fleshtones and armour work , the striped waistcoat adds to the Napoleonic

Why not enter a piece into the class of your choice in FOTM

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Very nice, nice contrast between the 'dirty' Roman after a battle, and the 'clean' French infantry man. Both styles just right for the busts.
