Calvin Tan Method

Has anyone had any experience using the methid Calvin Tan uses in his book? Priming the figure in flat black then dry brushing with flat white then dry brushing with the base color?

I did give Calvin's method a try. Painting an Alpine figure I followed the 'how to' using Calvin's Osprey "Modelling Waffen SS Figures" book and Vallejo acrylics (shudder, remember I'm an oils guys). Bottom line I didn't get Calvin's beautiful outcome but I was very happy with my attempt nevertheless. I would HIGHLY recommend this book and of course any of Taesung's figures.

On a side note, I prefer painting ancient through to the Crusades era figures, but I plan to start another Alpine figure (Kharkov grenadier) in the near future
