With Lincoln's face being so iconic it should look like him instantly but this really doesn't; sorry, the likeness is not there yet.

For some specifics: forehead is too deeply lined, upper lip is a bit too full (and I think the mouth line should be flatter), bags under the eyes are too pronounced and the lower lip/chin definition looks overdone (it seems to have varied a bit with age though). Lastly, think the eyes are a smidge too small, or it may be that they're a little too heavily lidded.

I have to disagree with Einion.....Carl has hit the likeness spot-on. I have seen many images of Lincoln and this bust looks just like him.

Read your comments Einion before taking a look at the bust and thought you are being a bit harsh but on inspection your points are extremely valid.

I think the third picture (right) has the worst likeness...
the black and withe pics has beter likeness, would be great to see some more clear pics of it!
anyway its a cool bust!

I have attached some images of Lincoln together with some images with a slightly darker contrast

I hope these will explain the piece more clearly.

I think everyone is entitled to have they're opinion! I think it looks like Lincoln, but then again I would, I sculpted it! But more importantly my client does! I guess the modelling community will make there own minds up!

hi guys
just thought id put my 2pence worth in. carl you have done a great job nice piece some people will moan about anything and everything and these people are the ones that do very little or none :notworthy: keep up the "great" work nick

Carl: Lincoln being a yankee and all I believe you got a splendid likeness of him: now if it were Jeff Davis or Robert E Lee I'd take a closer look.

Hi Carl, it works for me mate. I have looked at a lot of original pics of him since he was posted and there are a lot of different looking studies of him. IMHO you have captured his character and poise very well. Congratulations. I look forward to the challenge of breathing life into another great sculpt.

Regards

Ron

Great Job Carl! I always look forward to seeing your work. This is an artform and every piece of art is up to personal interpretation and vision. More power to you.

Einion is entitled to his opinion and won't hesitate to give it. Sometimes it is appreciated and sometimes it isn't but that is his choice and it is what it is. There is a place in the world for every vision.

Excellent work once again Carl.I really do love this bust and also think that the likeness to Abe Lincoln is spot on.Capturing the likeness of "real" people is probably one of the greatest challenges in sculpting but you did it with Wes Studi and youve done it again with Old Abe....Great work mate.
Regards

Cheers Jim,

I agree with you 100%. It is all about interpretation and opinion. You can sculpt a piece and finish it in different finishes, and it will look like a completely different piece, and have a different opinion of each, even though they are the same piece.

Carl

Carl great sculpting as usual and an excellent likeness , looking forward to seeing one in the flesh at Euro.(y)

Cheers Ken
