Hi Folks

Managed to get this piece finished from Castle Miniatures, 200mm Roman Vexillarius sculpted by the very talented Yury Serebryakov.

The kit was well cast in regards to sharpness in detail but there were a lot of air bubble holes in the surface of the face which was easily fixed with some Vallejo plastic putty and a wet paint brush. The bust is a one piece casting with only the two cheek guards as the other parts to be added.

It’s another piece for a collector; painted in JoSonja and Vallejo acrylics with the metals done with Tamiya acrylic. Just a few details and some highlight’s to finish up on.

The photos seem a bit washed out with regards to highlights and shadows in the face.

Any comments good or bad most welcome.

Cheers

Agree on the metal effects. But the face is nice too. I always like to see other colours mixed into flesh rather than just shades of one flesh tone.

Great job on this Tommi. Very convincing 'campaign' look, just as it should be.
Small thing.... should there not be ties pulling the 'cheek guards' together?
Cheers

Beautifully painted Tommi, great collectors piece.
Brilliant job on the eyes,.....Yuri really does know how to do fur!

Looks good Tommi(y) got this one myself along with some Jo sonja paints .

I am not sure if I like the bust tho and might not paint it ,was an impulse buy:D this doesn't detract from you paint job which is very nice , how do you like the Jo Sonja paints , very matt and very vibrant!
are you working wet on wet or as per acrylics.

Hi Del
Yes there should be and I will be adding that along with the final finishing details. There was nothing included in the kit for this so I have made one from a piece of wire ready to install as the last finishing part.

Hi Ron

The paints are a little different to use. I thin them down with water as they are quite thick and add a retardant to slow down the drying process. I use them in the air brush and also for normal acrylic layering, they do mix well with Vallejo paints quite well, the finish is very flat once the paint is dry.
As for the bust there are not many parts which makes it a bit awkward to get into several places to paint. Mine had lots of small pin holes all over the lower part of the face and nose, if filled them with Vallejo plastic putty and a wet brush to smooth off the surface.

Cheers
