CEASAR AVGUSTVS MAXIMUS - Alias "Supermanivs"
*Superman as Roman Emperor*
5 part resin kit by Figuralia Miniatures
CD-Rom included
Sculpted by Luca Piergentili
Limited Edition of 20 kits

SC 01.jpg

My good friend Jay (Sambaman) stopped over last week and brought with him Figuralia Miniatures newest release. Upon opening the box I immediately grabbed the camera and started taking photos of one of the finest kits, both sculpting and casting wise, I have ever seen.

SC 02.JPG

Packaged in a large sturdy box with each of the 5 resin parts individually wrapped and placed into the box to insure safe arrival. Also included was a CD-Rom with soundtrack and Faux Bronze step-by-step instructions for those who would want to bronze the bust.

SC 03.JPG

Unwrapping the parts and laying them out for display I noticed that each of the parts was numbered on the back side with the Limited Edition number and part number.

Above are several views of the head showing the careful attention to detail and proportion Luca has sculpted the bust in. Notice the Roman nose added from the original Superman character to give the bust a typical "Roman Nose" look.

The kit was engineered and casted so that the head fits tightly down into the recess of the chest / neck and the 2 sections of the cape form the back and left side. Every part fit perfectly.

Above are several close-ups of the head and cape dry-fitted all together. The detail of the armor with the traditional "S" of Superman appearing in the center plus the drapery and sculpting of the sash truely make this an amazing bust.

Above are the front and back of the 2 parts that comprise the cape where you can plainly see the Limited Edition number on the back of each part.

The above photos shows the back of the bust and how the plinth is slotted on the top to take the bust and they also show the inside of the plinth and back of the bust.

Each kit comes with a soundtrack and instructional CD for painting this in the Faux Bronze method in acrylics.

Conclusion:
Many may wonder why I did a review of a Limited Edition kit that well may be sold out already. My reason is to simply let you know the quality of sculpting and casting that is the best I have ever reviewed out of over 300 reviews. Be sure to look for future releases of Figuralia Miniatures so you won't miss out again.

Highly recommended Plus both in quality and sculpting.

In the last email from Luca he stated he had 2 kits left. You might want to contact him if you are interested.

Hi Guys,
Mine is on the way. This is a "must have" not only for comic book fans but for folks that do busts. For those of you not familiar with the term "Elseworlds" it is used by DC Comics to denote a story using an established DC personality and plunking him/her into a completely different place and time. There's one titled "Red Son" in which Superman's spaceship lands in Russia instead of Kansas another has Batman fighting crime as an English gentleman in Whitechapel at the time of Jack the Ripper. There's even one where Superman lands in America but PRIOR to the French and Indian War and helps BRITAIN win the ARW. I don't think there's been a Roman Superman story... but there should be!

Guy, many, many thanks for the spectacular review! This piece, nay, all of Luca's pieces deserve more attention. It has to be said, not only is the engineering on this kit perfection (Gary, good eye!), it is LITTERALLY ready for primer out of the box!! So cleanly cast, carefully packaged, perfectly fitting, just can't say enough good things about it. As you say, it's hard to tell what gems loom in Luca's future, but with pieces like this.........they will definitely be must haves!
