After seeing Roy Hunt's 90mm flat yesterday I got the urge to try and sculpt one myself. (Thanks Roy for the inspiration) For my first effort I stuck to a large size. The flat is about 200mm to 250mm (almost a Bass Refief instead of a flat). I used Super Sculpty to create the figure.

The figure is a portrait of the American Civil War General Joshua Chamberlain. The sculpt is based upon a famous photo taken of him aroung 1865.

Painting is coming up next. I am going to undercoat in acrylics and overcoat in oils. More to follow.

Hey Ed,

Very nice, Chamberlain is my favorite figure from the Civil War, please don't tell anyone ;) I was born and bred in the South, humming Dixie now! Will this be available or is it a one off?

Way to go Ed! Great to see someone enthusiastic and willing to try new stuff! Keep us posted on this one, looking forward to seeing some color on him! I'm jealous of that stache!

Ed, It's great to see someone try their hand at a flat/relief. You have done a commendable job. Now, get some paint on it! :) ~Gary

Hi Ed...it's certainly good to see you having a shot at a flat...they present some unique challenges but will always encourage your creative side, that's for sure.

All the best...Roy.
