Color Mixing Swatch Book
Author: Michael Wilson
Publisher: The Michael Wilcox School of Color Publishing
ISBN: 0-9679628-5-4
MSRP: $9.99 (cost varies on Amazon.com)
In one of the many telephone conversations with my good Friend Bob Knee, he suggested 4 books for anyone who is wanting to get started in painting figures with Oils. I shall review each with photos of the books and contents. There are many who feel only 3 colors are needed to mix anything. But I have not seen a readily available reference source to find out the formulas for these mixes. What I wanted was to have a reference, or cookbook, so to speak, of colors and what it takes to mix these colors. Michael Wilcox states that 2,460 hues from just 12 colors can be obtained from the formulas shown in his book.
At the top of the page are the main tube colors needed to achieve any of the hues shown on the page below.
The book does not come in ring binder format. I took the book to Kinko’s and had the binding chopped off and a ring inserted for easier use on my desk. I hate a book that won’t stay open when you are using it for reference and have several of my most often used Osprey books done in the same fashion.
I will do another of the books Bob reccomended tomorrow and post.
