Over on the Great War Forum, a Yorkshireman and artist, Chris Baker has been knocking our socks off posting gorgeous colorized photos from black and white WWI period originals. He is preparing to publish a book of the photos he's digitally colored. He posted them a few at a time originally on the GWF over the past 2 years or so and they have been nothing short of amazing. Obviously his publishers have asked him to pull all the previously posted ones, but check out just the most recent one and hold on to those socks. :)

As soon as the book deal is done and the book is available, I'll let you know.

All the best,
Dan

Wow Dan, this is amazing. We so often see WW1 as a "black & white" war but this type of restoration work really does make these old photos come alive, and makes the young men in these pics seem much more real and modern.

I can't wait to see the book.

well, I'm not a fan of black and white pics turned into colour but I have to admit that this is far better than I ever seen

WW1 Photos

All I can say is this is a fantastic project , what a fitting tribute to these brave men who gave their lives .
Well done , this is going to be a great book once published and a must have for all WW1 references .

Roger - I'm sorry - I thought you knew about Chris's posts. They've been going on for a couple years.

Nap - About every month, Chris has been posting a digitally colored photo on GWF and I'd be sockless. One of the photos he did which sticks in my mind is the classic of the three pipers piping down a road - breathtaking and I am not exaggerating. Most of the photos have, of course, been removed at the instruction of his publisher. Hang on for the book which will be well worth the $.

All the best,
Dan

Dan, yes I'd seen the earlier posts but I would have missed the Highlanders outside the pub if you hadn't pointed it out.

I'm a big fan of the GWF but there are just too many posts for me to catch up on all of them after a month away so I invariably miss some good stuff.
Same goes for here too.

Roger
