I would say the wagon itself would be natural wood and the cover would have been a canvas type material, probably off white.

I would go with a grey/green to olive color for your wagon.
Most Union gun carriages and caissons were painted this color. Being that these items see hard service, it's more than likely that they would be "treated". There was no "Thompson's Water Seal" back then :lol:
