Guys, Around sometime on Sunday I opened what I thought to be a harmless file, well it turned out to be a Trojan horse that prevented my Norton's from protecting my computer. Booting my Computer into SAFE MODE was the only way to get online and download a TROJAN REMOVER that helped me to rid the cp of the files that shut nortons down. With that I was now able (unlike before) to perform a SCAN which helpded to locate 2 more bad files which were removed, which brings me to today. All week my computer worked fine, except now when I turn it on the computer restarts after my desktop comes up. I'm unable to do a system restore because my computer does not stay on long enough to do this, and I'm unable to do it in SAFE MODE. It looks as if I'm almost to wgere I was on Sunday, but with a different problem. Any suggestions?~Gary

Could you provide:

Operating system (Windows 98, 2000, etc):
Internet connection:
Name of Trojan (if possible):

Do you have your original Windows setup CD?
Is it a Dell?
Do you have access to a seperate PC to download repair tools(with broadband)?

Gordy let me try this again.

Windows XP
DSL (Is that what you mean by connection?)
Trojan: Backdoor.prorat
CP is a HP Pavilion 533w

I have a set of system recovery disks that were sent by HP when my computer got nailed by that nasty Worm that hit a year or so ago.

I do have access from another cp to download repair tools if I'm unable to correctly do it in safe mode.

When I turned on my cp this morning It said the following file is missing. How this may have happened I do not have a clue.

<windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.

Can this be restored somehow?

Thanks for your time.~Gary
