Hi all

Let's take a trip back to the late 60's/ early 70's ...... a certain colourful individual burst onto the music scene with a career of just over 4 years but has remained so influential as a guitarist

Hits include All along the watchtower , Hey Joe , The wind crys Mary ,Voodoo Child and of course Purple haze of course the man I am talking about is JIMI HENDRIX born in 1942 died in 1970

As you see ...a colourful wardrobe !

Black and white stills in concert ...very atmospheric

His guitar ( he named it Izabella apparently)...he obviously had several !

Let's have a look at the piece

I ordered this after seeing it on Social Media and fancied a very different subject , shipping was quick the contents received in a strong simple cardboard box, no artwork outside with the items very well packed

I would like to highlight the fact that Mark sent me a picture of the packed item prior to highlight the position of the guitar due to the very small tuning pegs , advising care when opening .....a nice touch

Details of release:

Title: Jimi Hendrix

Reference: Legends of Rock

Scale: approx 1/10th

Material: Lt Gray

No of Pieces: 4

Sculptor: Mark Haywood using 3D

Casting: In House

Box Art: N/A

Consisting of 4 pieces , main torso , guitar with arm , strap extension and small base

IMG_2289.jpg

Prep

1.Slight sanding on underside of torso and around fingers

2.Test fit base to provided hole

3.Some filler will be needed when fitting the right arm and the strap extension

4.Wash, Prime and Paint

Mr H is wearing a open necked shirt , collar prominent over this we have a patterned waistcoat , perhaps the actual patterns and designs could be a bit more defined but they are still paintable

Folds and creases on shirt are good , very full and blousing out nicely

Across the right shoulder the guitar strap is cast into place .....be careful its positioned to take the guitar

Facial features are good overall , eyes shut , mouth open with teeth and tongue showing (some might want to slightly increase the chin prominence and add a little to the nose ) with the hair having good textures and the bandana being worn it's recognisable at the man himself , the neck has some nice muscle/throat work

Before we look at the guitar and arm here's a useful naming chart
IMG_2186.JPG

The guitar has been sculpted with the right arm holding ...that's a really good idea to help fitment but I can imagine the printing would have been interesting !

The guitar is held nicely with the fingers positioned at the top of the neck as if playing

The fingers are well defined and positioned nicely

You'll need filler when fitting the arm and do plan your build properly , in my view suggest you paint torso first then fit arm/guitar fully ( after a dryfit )

The guitar shape is good and details are there including strings ...others might wish to super details it up even more ,adding a power jack .....or even adding actual music when on display ...the options are many

The strap extension will need careful fitting and filling at join , perhaps feather a new strap from further up the cast on back strap

IMG_2242.JPG IMG_2243.JPG IMG_2244.JPG IMG_2245.JPG IMG_2246.JPG IMG_2247.JPG IMG_2248.JPG IMG_2249.JPG IMG_2250.JPG

The base is a small but suitable shaping and fits good into the underside ...you could use a brass rod instead

Let's have some pics from social media of the 3D images

And now as inspiration Marks painted version

Final thoughts

A interesting and very different subject so credit to all involved , challenging to paint but plenty of options and providing you plan the build , hours of enjoyment and of course great fun researching the clothing and the man and listening to the music

Will be interesting to see future subjects from the music industry

Big thanks for the quick shipping , packing quality and customer service to

Nap,
I am glad you presented this figure. The finished version looks great. 3D imaging has come a long way. One of these days I will post a "Guitar Player" I did to honor my brother. Since deceased. I am kind of timid to post my work. Again, this looks really good!
