Cretan Rebel 1866

[Akritis]

In 1866 another one of the many rebelions against Turks took place on the island of Crete by the cristian population. It was one of the most terrible periods of history for the cristian population of the island. Many of them dyed fighting without any hope of win. The figure of this picture is armed with a martini henry rifle a common weapon of the period. It is posible that he took it from a Regular Turkish infantry man during the many hand to hand combacts of this time. ΓΜ 2000
