Off my workbench just in time to be wrapped for Christmas.

My daughter always gives me a hard time that I only paint “dead French generals”, a less than subtle knock on my usual portfolio of Napoleonics. It’s really not true – just last year I did a Hannover sergeant from the Seven Years War.

Next year will be the 75th anniversary of D-Day. To celebrate my recent retirement, next summer my daughter and I will be going on a “Band of Brothers” tour of the 101st Airborne’s path through Europe. To celebrate our upcoming father-daughter road trip I painted Young Miniatures’ “Currahee” for her as a Christmas gift.

I think it’s the first monochrome figure I’ve ever done. It took some trial and error to find the right color mix for the olive uniform. Done in oils. Any feedback is welcome.

I’m impressed with Young Miniatures casting. This was a beautiful kit that painted up nicely. I’ll definitely do another one. I think they have a French Grenadier that would look nice on my shelf.

Great job. Went to Normandie a couple of times with my sons and it really is impressive. It's hard to imagine the deathly landings while standing on the peacefull beaches nowadays. Since I always make video's of the trips we make I combined shots of the landing-scenes of Saving Private Ryan with the ones of the peacefull beaches we visited then. It made me realize what we were looking at.

Be sure to visit Dead Mans Corner museum.

Great job on the bust David! As far as the road trip, I'd say your daughter is a lucky girl as are you to have her share it with you.

Have a great trip, let us know how it went and by all means keep painting.:)

Cheers,
Ken
