Hi All

I was at Daves last night discussing our joint project (his is better than mine) and I took some photos of some of his figures thought you might like to see some.
This includes his most recent figure an Alpine DAK tanker.

let us know what you think.

Hi Robin

The knight in the middle picture didn’t that make an apearance in the MilMod Mag about Euro a couple of years ago.....?

Hey Dave - Great work

Hopefully Dave can tell what firm made him.

Hi Dave

Yes he did, he got a bronze I believe, hopefully Dave will pop in later and correct me if I am wrong.

Marc

Hes a pegaso Knight I think.

I love 'em. However my jealousy at Daves talent is compounded by two of the figures, which I had bought off a German guy on ebay and they never arrived (the Rifle Brigade and Northumbrian warrior figures). So if I had got them, then seen Daves, well the inspiration would have just flowed out!!! Keep it up mate they are fantastic.

Well - what can I say except thanks for all the comments.

I paint in artists' acrylics mostly, using repeated very thin washes to get the smooth transitions. It's a slow process. I use Andrea paints for reds, blues and greens as artists' acrylics are too shiny. I'll post a few more pics sometime but they won't be belters like Robin's. They are really excellent photograhs - thanks Robin.

Have a good Christmas everybody and a happy new year.

I'm sorry - I forgot to answer the questions put.

The Knight is the 54mm Pegaso Bavarian Knight. I got a bronze at Euro Militaire. I'm not much good at heraldry so straight lines did the trick. There was a picture in Mil Mod.

I use artists acrylic metallic paints. I have a tube each of Cryla Rich Gold (imitation) and Silver (imitation). My technique is to paint an undercoat of a ochre for gold or grey for silver. Then I put on a few washes of the acrylic.

If it's a gold thing I'm painting I highlight with a mix of siver and gold. Because the acrylics are not very opaque you can build up quite subtle highlights. I shade, but not much, with gold mixed with dark brown.

It's much the same with silver except I would do a couple of washes with silver mixed with black then highlight with pure silver, or near as dammit. Shade would be thinned silver and black.

The gold mixes well with other colours to get copper and bronze etc.

This technique works for small objects but is useless for big things where there is an expanse of metal, like breastplates, or stuff in the larger scales
