Another long pause from sculpting, but started a new female head two weekends ago.
I think I know what is wrong with it, just learned that "strange look of wide open eyes" effect has has an official name, it's called "Deer in headlights" :)
Now just to figure out how to fix them ;)

Size is about 1/6

Rodion my friend I am impressed. As a Greek and as an amateur sculptor I say that you are right. You are very observative and very well educated in art.

Hi Darko!
I wonder if, firstly, the space between the eyes is narrower than a width of her eye.
Secondly, I would increase volume of upper eyelid and have more arched eyebrows. That would visually increase space around eyes.

You may gain something by making eyeballs more round -that will mean to sink and round up corners more, this will shorten the width of eyeballs, but will keep overall stunning large eyes impression.
I can make you a sketch of the above if you would like more detail, its just an opinion.

She reminds me of Nefertiti, have a look at eyes on original bust, I think this will be the way to go.

Good luck, she is looking good (y)

Very nice Darko, you haven't lost your touch. It is great seeing you still sculpting. ;)

Spot on - instant change evident(y) . Play with it a bit more, like I say Nefertiti eyes will work really well for her.

Another thing for female face - to make least amount of creases and wrinkles - smooth everything out, as that creates older impression when painted. This comes from extensive discussions with Pepa Saavedra and she knows her onions...sorry - airbrush :)

The obvious answer to me was too much iris showing. The full iris is rarely seen (unless those headlights are approaching at a rapid pace:p). The re-work seems to have addressed the problem nicely. She does have a subtle ethnic look to her. Nice work.

Yes, I noticed that some wrinkles are too prominent, nasolabial fold particularly...

Hi Maki !!!
Yes, I'm still sculpting, but not as much as I would like.
The dally work is killing me, had almost no free time for three months in a role...but when I get those few hours, the clay is instantly in my fingers ;)

Yes, that is right, but it was not obvious to me at first - now I found the info that almost 1/3 of the Iris should be covered with upper eyelid, and lower eyelid should just slightly cover or just touch the lower part of the iris...

A bit more progress from last night - eyes are now looking much better to me:

Now it seems that I do not understand the volumes around nose bridge, for smaller sizes that was OK, but in this large scale it is obvious that something is oversimplified there...

Darko
Very nice sculpting and the adjustments are doing the trick. As mentioned there are some ethnic variations in facial features and therefore there is no correct version. Your face has a slightly longer nose than average and maybe this is what is highlighting your difficulties around the bridge. Just below the lower eyelid are a couple of muscles that are used to raise the upper lip, you could try just fattening them up a little where they meet the side of the nose.

All the best
John
