Demi-Lancer Late 1500s
United Empire Miniatures
1/10 scale
Sculpted by Shane Tarry
Painted by Jay Hollopeter (Sambaman)
Resin – 2 pieces
Some quick background info on this piece from the sculptor:
The piece is based on a few period illustrations from the second half of the 1500s. These illustrations depict cavalry from the French Wars of Religion and English gentlemen from the Armada campaign. Since there was no formal uniform of the period, personal taste, wealth and fashion tended to dictate appearance. The Demi-Lancer was a popular form of cavalry of the period as they were less expensive to raise and more mobile than the fully armored cuirassier.
This bust is beautifully sculpted to approximately 1/10 scale. It is flawlessly cast in off white/beige resin by the capable hands of John Lea at United Empire Miniatures. With absolutely no seam lines and the two simple pieces there was virtually no clean up time at all. The hat is cast as a separate piece and fits, as you can see, perfectly on top of the head.
The details on this piece are beautifully sculpted. The hair detail, the details in the filigree on the cuirass and gorget, all are sculpted and cast meticulously and ready to take advantage of. One item to take note of is the subtle lifted brow on the left side of the face. A great little bit of added expression to this simple piece.
Over all highly recommend. This is a great bust from an interesting period in history with many painting options as far as color is concerned. With its great casting and nice details, this simple 2 piece casting makes it very straight forward and it paints up fantastically.
This piece will be released by United Empire Miniatures for the Atlanta Miniatures show (February of this year). Thanks for looking and keep those brushes wet!
