Greetings,
This one just in - - -

54019-f.jpg

Des Kit 54 mm scale resin kit depicting a Confederate infantryman of a Texas Brigade, barefoot. He is holding his brogans and canteen, with musket resting on shoulder. Sculptor and painter unknown. Figure is not yet posted on their web site, but presumably will be soon (Pls note I do have stock) (Des Kit web site.)

Regards,
John

Not even gonna touch this one. :) ~Gary

P.S. John also carries Shenandoah Miniatures and the Art Girona Civil War figures (I'm almost positive anyway), though certain aspects of the uniforms on the Latorre stuff could use some work here and there. Thanks for posting.

I've looked at a few of these DES kits aat shows. They seem a good value. I think the figure shown looks okay. I would like to see it with some groundwowrk to get a better idea of what he's doing. This line seems good fodder for conversion work.

I thought so initially too Gary, but I just realised what the pose intends to show, I think, he's testing water with his toe! That musket should still rest on his right shoulder though and what's with the floating blanket-roll?!

Inspite of the obivous flaws pointed out by Gary and Einion, I have just added this to the order I will be placing next week, will go along nicely in the dio I am working on with some work.

Okay I'll bite. As far as the pose goes the musket should rest either on his shoulder or blanket roll, as it would make no sense to carry a rifle the way shown by the boxart. I'd also be curious to see how the blanket roll is suspended. Other than the bootees (shoes) the "uniform" is very generic and does not appear to replicate specific garments, although the jacket could be a Richmond Depot type. His haversack is HUGE and hangs really low on his body. Though size could vary his wooden canteen is also very large for the type. Lastly the belt looks really wide and the buckle looks like a big flat disk. My nit-picky two cents worth.~Gary

Gary,
All valid points, but when you consider that the average 54mm figure (unmounted) costs anywhere from $20 to $50, $13 is a bargin even if it requires some TLC. Regarding the belt belt buckle, that is the one flaw consistant in the whole line.

Just remember, you get what you pay for.~Gary

My copy arrived yesterday, thanks for the quick service John. As expected, the hand holding the rifle has to be replaced, their are no straps (for the bedroll nor laces for the shoes) and I will be using a PE belt buckle, butthe scuplting is great overall, and the casting is clean. For $13 it ain't a bad figure.
