I'am working on a 1/10 Seal and need some help with how do get a good pattern. I am using acrylics. I have great references. Need an idea on how to lay the edges down right. Any help would be great. thanks, Ryan

Well you're off to a good beginning with the references, must-have starting point for something like this.

Two main things I can suggest, the first is paint consistency: thin the paint just enough to ensure good flow (depending on what you're using this might be straight from the bottle, but you're likely to need to dilute just a little bit). This will give the ideal balance between easy brushing and opacity/coverage. Second thing is to practice painting the pattern off the model, on a scrap of plastic card or something like that primed just the same as the model will be; only commit to the bust once you're comfortable painting the pattern consistently and evenly.

If you find it hard to get right after a few tries you might try painting a test at a larger scale - possibly even half size - and then reducing down in stages to 1/10, that can help in other contexts and it might work here.

I remember seeing a good digicam sbs which gave more helpful advice such as laying down the pattern proper and colour mixes. I can't remember if it was Calvin Tan. Maybe one of the other planeteers could give you a heads up if they can remeber whom it was for sure.
Be good to see him finished.

Yes I think it was Calvin Tan; probably just a link was posted here, with the SBS itself hosted on his site so probably fastest to go straight there.

BTW, you're welcome Ryan.

And to finish, grind some pastel stick ( light colors : sand mixed with white ) grind to powder dust then with a large brush make some drybrushing
I tried that some years ago 80ies ( following a thread given by Mr Verlinden ) with another mix of pastels
