display case is full

Maybe a stupid question but I have to know.
I have in my living room 1 large display cabinet. In my hobbyroom I have three display cabinets.
Now I have these all stacked with finished figures. There is no place for more display cabinets.
I think that a few on this forum have the same problem.
What do you guys do with the older figures when all the display cabinets are full??
Can you put them in a box and store them,
Any good solution is welcome.

I make individual boxes for each figure.

Mine are mainly white metal so I'm having them made into a coffin

Seriously Mark, like you I have a large collection 650+ and it is a problem knowing how to dispose of the older models. Fortunately I have 4 very large cabinets so maybe enough space to see me out.
One cabinet for figures painted by myself and the other three painted by some well known modellers and a Russian Studio.

It depends really if you see them as value (which I don't) or just a historical record of your painting progress.
It is also worth talking to your family and soliciting their view of the collection.

You could donate them to a club or charity to sell for funds, Ebay them, or if you want to store them go to a carpet store and get some of the long circular cardboard centres. I used these for the larger foot figures cut down and inserted into sturdy plastic boxes the figures kept upright by pouring in lightweight packing chips.

I don't really see the point of just packing them away, will you ever look at them again or just leaving a problem for someone else to deal with...none of us are getting any younger.

I don’t have one single finished figure… I cannot imagine having this issue. Lol

I sell or give away most of my finished models, once theyve done 12 months on the show circuit. There are a couple of us at or club who are considering attending a car boot sale soon, to dispose of our old stuff!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I don't have a single model on display.
When I finish painting some are gifted, some are sold, some get butchered for later projects and those that don't meet these fates end up in old boxes and drawers.

I'm not quite that bad as that , but my unfinished and unstarted figures combined outnumber my finished ones by roughly 10 to 1. I have one display cabinet about 3/4 full containing all of my finished work since about 2011 (for one reason or another, very little from before that date has survived).

A friend of mine from one of the two modelling clubs that I'm a member of is a fantastic scratch-builder, converter and hyper-detailer (I mean seriously good), but unfortunately he has the attention span of a goldfish and almost never completes anything.

It's a common affliction in our hobby, I think.

I plan on boxing up some of the older and storing them in the loft, either that or buy a bigger house.

Hi Keith As you say none of us are getting any younger.I've got 1 large cabinet and 2 smaller ones full and i've got many more that ive painted but just sit about in my spare room gathering dust.If i can't sell them i'm just going to leave them for someone else to deal with.Selfish? Yes. Problem solved .I might try andflog some on e bay but havent a clue how to go about that.I think theres a lack of collectors now we're in a cost of living crisis.
