Hello Figureteers!
Well, I really had a nice weekend in Folkestone, meeting old friends, making new ones. Looking at fantastic work displayed and going into a shoppingfrenzy.
Also nice to see certain companys back at Euro, see ones you have done business with in real life and find new ones. And unfortunatly also missing a few.
Some Figureteers I met for the first time and others are old friends. Im only disapointed that I didnt had the chance to talk more to some of you.
The drama Im referring to in the title has nothing to do with judging or the show. But started out of the blue on Sunday, when I thought everyting was over. Some of my friends where to watch the footballgame and afterwards we where bound for dinner at the Indian Buffet. We team up at seven and goes to the resturant. A quarter past seven my cellphone starts playing the ringtune(Janie Jones with Clash).
It is one of my friends who has come to Euro Militaire for the first time. He and two of his mates left around five oclock by car and now they where standing in line for the ferry to France only then realizing that he had forgotten one of his entries at the Leas Cliff Hall! A small vignette with walls, flowers and a waterpump set in France. To make things even worse, this was actually a gift to his wife and built after a photo from a village in France where she has stayed a lot.
In a fast paste, without ordering, I walk back to the Leas Cliff Hall. Its dark in there but I try the door which is locked and knock on it. Shortly Diego Runa turns up and I try to explain my arrend through the door which is a little awkard. But soon a girl with keys turns up and I explain the situation.
No one besides her and the Pegasocrew is left there, and no left entries is found.
Taking a chance, I go to the Clifton remembering that Ken Jones stayed there and some of the judges. Ken Jones has left, so has Geoffrey Illsley but the girl in the reception confirms that other judges are still there but probably out for dinner.
So, I leave my card in the reception, asking the girl in the reception to give it to them and call me when they come back. After that I go back to the Buffet and try to eat and enjoy the food but this mess has stressed me up quite a bit and I have lost some of my appetite.
After having dinner I go back to the Cliffton but no one is there. Me and the other guys sit for a while drinking and chatting at Southcliff and I go back to the Cliffton at eleven to find Max Longhurst sitting there with two other judges. Unfortunatly I cant recall their names. However, after explaining my problem, one of them gives me the adress and phone number to Geoffrey Illsley and with that secured in my wallet I try to get some sleep.
The next day I have breakfast around eight oclock and wait to nine to call Geoffrey Illsley. After apologizing for disturbing him and his wife it turns up that he has the vignette in question and is willing to go back to Folkestone with it?! Litterally going the extra miles.
So after waiting for him for a while outside Langhorne Garden where we are staying, he turns up around twenty past ten with the vignette. He refuses to take any money as compensation, nor for the gas. All I can do is give him my card hoping to be able to return that favour one day.
So a big, big and very warm Thanks to the Headjudge Geoffrey Illsley for this. And to all other that helped or offered to help.
We then found a box in the reception at the hotel where we stayed and bought some toiletpaper to secure it more in the box before putting it in our carryon luggage for the flight. And it was a happy friend when I told him I had it under controll. And without any more problems it went along with us back to Sweden. He will get it back at the end of next month when we will meet at a show in Malmö, far south in Sweden.
So after all, it became a happy end, but Sunday evening where a bit stressful.
Cheers
Janne Nilsson
