I've just received my portable sanding pen from DSPIAE, ordering it from my local dealer here in Edmonton, Alberta. After using a Dremel Moto-Tool for many years, this light-weight tool is the item I've needed for a long time. I've been able to experiment with it on both plastic and resin figures, and it handles like a dream. I'm very impressed with it's capabilities since it's quite gentle on the plastic and doesn't melt it like the high-speed, heavy, cumbersome, and powerful Dremel.

I've photographed it here with one of the grinding bits that were ordered separately. I've also put in an order for a 3mm chuck to adapt some other bits. The overall length of the tool is 5 inches.
Cheers,
Gary

Intrigued Gary, not seen one of these before.
How expensive is this item?
Can it be used for drilling & working on white metal too?

Hello Mike - I paid $37.00 in Canadian dollars for it, which I thought was quite reasonable. The grinding bits were $17.00. There's a YouTube review out there where the reviewer tried it on several different materials. There are three speeds to it, but there's nothing mentioned in the specs as to what those RPM's are.

On your prompt, I had a quick go with the bit shown on the lower half of a figure in the spares box. Just to see how it would work on a few seams. The good thing about the gentle action of the sanding pen is the control it allows. At a faster speed, used after I took the photo, it seemed to work even better on the seams. With a different grinding tip one could really work through the white metal if needed. It's only day two and I wouldn't want to be without this thing!

Even more intriguing now Steve & Gary.
Thanks for sharing details.
Rare to find a useful tool nowadays that I haven’t had a play with or already have in my stash.
Will keep an eye out for it.

I got one of these myself today from Scale Model Shop:-

I've tried it out once so far, and it cleaned up cast lines very well on a resin bust.
I would probably use it for initial clean-ups and finish with a flexible sanding stick until I get more proficient.
I've also found that all my grinding bits fit perfectly, so I'll give them a go soon.
Overall, looks like a nice tool.

Cheers,
Andrew

Good news Andrew, like you I ordered one immediately I saw the original post, unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to try it owing to illness over the past couple of weeks. Great news that you have tried it and given it the thumbs up. Seemed worth a punt for not a lot of money. Keen to use it on White Metal as well, suspect the bits may clog a little but can't imagine it will be any worse than the old dental burrs I use.

Hi Keith - just saw your post. After trying my tool on the white metal figure, I noticed a bit of buildup on that sharp grinding tip I was using. Cleaned up fine with a scrub of a brush. Did some work on a resin Copper State Models figure today and it performed very well indeed. - Cheers!

I can recommend the oscillating sander as well. A good range of heads and lots of sanding pads included. If anyone wants a link I will attempt to post one.
