Eastern Viking. Carl Reid Sculptures
1/9th scale resin and white metal bust sculpted by Carl Reid, Box art photos soon from Sang-Eon Lee
This is the latest piece from Carl Reid sculptors, a beautiful resin and white metal Eastern Viking Bust.
All parts come well protected in a sturdy box with all parts sandwich between two layers of foam.
The kit comes with six resin parts and three white metal parts.
A close inspection of the bust shows and excellent level of detail sculpted into the bust and a high level of casting. There are only a few thing blocks to remove and sand which have been left over from the casting process.
A close up of the face shows the masterful work and effort that has been sculpted into this bust.
Test fitting of the hat shows a very snug fit, there is a small mould plug that needs to be removed from the top.

Test fitting of the arms show a very good fit. The arms locate very accurately into the upper socket and in the exact position to accept the hands and axe.
The hands and axe are cast in white metal and are a one piece casting.
Location of the hands into the arms is very precise. When I test fitted these parts they locked together very nicely.
The shield is nicely designed and well cast.
There is a small depression located on the back of the bust to accept the locating plug on the back of the shield.
There is an extension to the strap that attaches to the shield, this is cast in white metal which allows you to manipulate it easily to the correct position before gluing.
The hat tassels are cast in white metal and locate nicely into a small hole in the hat.
There is a very nice pedistal with the kit with an engraved Viking design

Conclusion:
Another excellent piece from the talented hands of Carl Reid. The Kit is very nicely detailed and well cast. A small amount of cleaning up of parts is needed removing the casting blocks. I think we will see many of these at the shows in the coming months: Highly recommended.
