End of the month and the end of the Basement. Only found out recently that the site was closing not due to lack of support but due to the owners being unable to continue to commit the amount of time that a leading specialist site requires. It should make us all the more grateful for the efforts of Gordy and the administrators (new album due out soon ;))
pF is a truly international forum that prides itself in rejecting insularity and provides it's members with vigourous critique, support, news and more than a little humour in a clique free environment.
Lets hope that pF can provide a new home for any of the Basement Boys who want to show and share their considerable skills, or indeed just shoot the breeze. As the song goes.....Goodbye..eeee Goodbye....eeee

Strangely enough I dont see many members supporting the great service provided by the basement, or did they?
Sad to see any forum close, but never went on it anyway so dont think it matters to much. I will continue to enjoy Planet Figure and I do hope the members of the basement who drift across will enjoy PF as much as I do.

Hey Del are you suggesting that the staff of the now defunct forum made this little movie as they vanished into the dusk perhaps never to return??????

Don

Hi guys ,

You are are right Del TB has now closed and I for one will miss it , it was I have no doubt a hard decision...for whatever reason .

I have supported TB and learnt a lot from it , made hopefully life long friends , many of why are members of PF.

There is of course still FW to look forward to each year (date for 2013 TBC) and of course the new releases from TB range of figures , sculpted by amongst others Rob Lane (a member also of PF as well as TB) .

On a positive note the SW Chapter of TB have reformed into the South West Figure Modellers , having monthly meetings as usual (next on 11th October) , we will be displaying at this years Bugle Call on the 25th November .

So Not Good Byeeee more like "We'll meet again .." .

Here's to happy modeeling to all ..whatever forum or type you are into

With the possible exception of the international aspect, these were values that The Basement shared too. Anyone who chose to engage with The Basement found it to be nothing but a friendly and inviting environment for people who shared a common passion; modelling. It is a sad day that the forum closed but I would add that it is just the forum that has closed. FigureWorld, the Basement Figure Range, and the Masterclass events will all be continuing.

Don we are already here!;)

As a long standing member of The Basement and also Planet Figure, I would like to say that TB has had strong support from it's members for the last six years and we are all very sad to see it go, so I for one am very grateful that I still have PF to follow and enjoy and hopefully this is how it will continue to be so, so a big thanks to Gordy & the rest of the crew.

And well said Kev/Nap, I'll second that! All of that!

Cheers

Occurs to me that when a Forum closes a lot of stuff disappears....I'm thinking specifically about any tutorials.
Is there any way even though TB is closed of transferring tutorials and references over?

It's interesting....I'd never have called the basement a specialist site
It's interesting how new forums spring up from time to time. Sometimes sites can grow so big that's it's easy to get lost within the flow of traffic, and smaller ones in their infancy can feel more personal. I used to post on the CoolMini forums, but that site has over 65000 forum members, and even this site has over 5000 now.

Been a member here for a long long time and I supported the basement, as much as I could, just like I would/have PF...made good friends on both, and other forums too.

Completely agree about the losing all the links/tutorials, Del. A few of my SBS topics will be lost. And sadly some of Roy's stuff too.

Don we are already here;)

I knew there were members already on here and that is great. My point was that very few members of the basement had taken the trouble to support their forum by making other forum members aware of its closure and mentioning their support for it. I have already said the loss of any forum is a sad event. I just expected the members to make more of their feelings known, perhaps a way could have been found to save it?

Ross, I have to say my own experience was far from that which you suggest. I'm sure the place was a wonderful experience for those within the 'private members club' which was 'The Basement". I found the experience to be one of exclusion and elitism.
One big private joke.....It couldn't have helped that members were given military rankings whilst trying to appear non elitist.
It's still a sad thing to see a forum which has been a vibrant meeting place for those 'in the club' go down. I'd be more than happy to see all those members of 'The Basement' join the truly international community of modellers on Planet Figure.

Mark,

I guess we will have to agree to disagree but I would suggest that there was no 'private members club' in the forum. There were those of us who were moderators and helped run the forum, and as one of those people I can tell you that I treated all members the same. Yes, there were those of us that knew/know each other very well but that was a product of the forums size and the fact that we regularly saw each other. We never intentionally made new members feel unwelcome. In actual fact the vast majority of new members were 'personally' welcomed. That was one advantage of being a small forum.

As tot he ranks issue they went a long time ago and were a feature of the forum software rather than an a statement of elitism. I know many forum both modelling and history based that use this same forum software and this feature relates to the number of posts you make rather than any hierarchy. In actual fact, if memory serves me right, many years ago when this forum began it used a similar system.

Hi Mark
I respect your opinion but I don't agree with it in regards to 'private members club' and "exclusion and elitism",I think your way off the mark on that one . I for one was always made to feel welcome on the site and never felt I was a member of a private members club full of elitism and I'm sure that nobody was made to feel unwelcome because they were not elite enough to join it's ranks, anybody and everybody could join, if what your saying was true I'd have left it long ago, we band of brothers & a few sisters of the Basement all just enjoyed being part of a great Forum that was there to share our skills and knowledge to anyone who wanted it and to gain the like from our fellow modellers, because at the end of the day thats what we all are..Modellers! So therefore the same as PF so why do you have an issue with the now lost TB?
I think if you want to encourage & welcome more guys like me over from the Basement then you need to leave these sort of remarks alone, and as far as military ranking goes... that was'nt "given" to anybody for any real reason ..it worked along the lines that the more you posted on the site then the rank automatically increased..just a bit of fun really, anyway that was dropped a couple of years ago for reasons that I believed was a tech problem.
I made a lot of good friends from the Basement as I have done and hope to do so from Planet Figure so I think we should all let The Basement rest in peace and you should stop kicking it in the B*****ks now it's down.
Cheers

Hi Don
No problem mate, I understand your point of view and I didn't take any offence to what you said, it's just a lot of the guys on the Basement did make their feelings known (including myself) to the guys who were running the site, but I know there were good reasons for the owners to let the site go, some of them being private reasons, I don't know if there could have been a way to save it but alas it has gone now, I think that was a desicion that was made by the owners after much thought had been given to it...Anyway we are where we are now and I think it's time to move on and carry on enjoying and posting on PF..well for me it is, I don't know about all the other Basement members, some will join PF and some won't for what ever reason but I think that will be their loss.

Cheers
Jim
