Those that know Kev and I will be aware of his preference for legless busts and my own preferred full figures. A bit of gentle banter goes along whenever we chat and I have since acquired the moniker 'Leggy'
With this in mind and following the purchase of a nice old 54mm Pegaso Toison d'or knight from a fellow PFer (Thanks Klish) which was taken apart and cleaned I started this little project. After a couple of false starts trying first one coat of arms and then another I did a further bit of digging and came across a certain Jehain de Roubaix. When I saw his helmet crest I was completely hooked
Apart from the obvious crest change I also modified the lance so that the upper half can be removed for transport making the box smaller. New spurs and reins were added from lead foil (I managed to misplace a spur and prefer lead sheet for reins)
To prevent future sagging (we hope) the rear legs have steel pins now fitted which go the full length of the leg necessitating a bit of work with miliput on the inside of the caprison.
I'll spare you the swearing which accompanied the painting of the stylised heraldic ermine which is painted in 4 different sizes which covered most of the cloth fields. There are 198 full ones in case you wanted to know including the back of the shield and the inside of the helmet cloth. You can imagine my delight when I discovered that I'd managed to paint the tiny hooks on the three dots going the wrong way on the front quarter of the caprison! After a bit of soul searching I took Detol to the whole white area and repainted the everything, background and all - glad I did since it's the sort of thing that would have bugged me.
Everything was painted in my now usual acrylics apart from the horse which was oils on an acrylic base. The metalwork was the first piece done using Darkstar acrylics which I really like - very smooth and without the 'glitter' effect that some acrylics have.
Anyway here it is Kev in all its glory, my first mounted figure - hope you approve
