I recently bought a mail order package of El Viejo Dragon natural seaweed for groundwork. I assumed it would come already looking somewhat like grass, more or less kinda like the new Silflor grass products. Instead, the package contains 3 separate brown balls which bear a strong resemblance to those things that dung beetles shove around the neighborhood on the animal planet channel. This is, by no means, a criticism of EVD's fine products but I don't know how else to describe them.
Unfortunately, the package doesn't contain instructions & their website offers no description. Does anyone out there know how to use these? Do I drop them in a glass of water & watch them turn into sea monkeys, er, I mean seaweed? Or, do I drop them into a pot, add some water, & wait for them to sprout like chia pets? Any help would be greatly appreciated because the finished product looks very realistic.

Hello Mike,

I have used EVD's seaweed for a couple of years now and recent photos in my gallery will show its use. I pinch a clump off the ball, cut the bottom even and attach to finished groundwork with white glue. Touch up afterwards with your groundwork color if needed. There are some instructions available and I'll look to see if I can locate them for you.

Dung:) That's exactly what crossed my mind when I picked up some of this product last year. It actually works very well. Just take tweezers and simply tease out the amount you need. Attach as you would similar products with either white glue or acrylic medium.

Here's a photo of EVD's grass (seaweed) used on a 90mm figure.

Guy & Paul,

Thank you for your advice. Looking at how it's packaged, it sure looks like something that needs to be cultivated somehow before you use it. Tweezers & white glue, I've got, so I'll give it a shot. If I get motivated, I'll try to post a photo or 2 this weekend. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks John,

I knew I had seen a tutorial somewhere and could not find it.

John, Military Miniatures Warehouse, also carries some groundwork products that are second to none and I am slowly aquiring these as I order figures from John.

I agree with Guy... I have gotten some really great ground work things from
John. He has got some really great "trees" and I hope to see a lot of what
he carries at MFCA in May.
